Course information

Target group

Staff working with children and their families where there is a diagnosis of autism have the skills to understand autistic behaviours and identify risk. 

Aims and objectives

  • Describe how to support children and parents/carers to manage this alongside normal childhood development behaviours and mental health difficulties. Particularly focusing on older children/transition from primary – secondary age and adolescence rather than younger children.
  • Identify the early signs of escalating behaviour and ensure that the right support is offered to parents to understand and be able to manage this
  • Discuss how autism is assessed and when to seek further advice /guidance if there is an escalation of concerns/safeguarding risks including reference to any risk assessments
