Title Alcohol Use and the Mental Capacity Act
Details

Learning from Swindon Safeguarding Adult Review Robert has shown that professionals may not always have the confidence and knowledge to be able to identify and work with alcohol use disorders and self-neglect.

The aim of this session is to provide information and knowledge for professionals to be able to identify and confidently work with those experiencing alcohol use disorders and the interplay with self-neglect.

This will be an opportunity to explore the following key themes:

  • What is alcohol use disorder, including recognising this and ensuring professionals aren’t waiting for any diagnosis before stepping in
  • What is the SADQ and how we can use it
  • Assessing mental capacity where there is alcohol dependency (impact on cognition and fluctuating capacity)

This session was facilitated by Dr Bruce Trathen, MBBS MRCPsych, Consultant Psychiatrist.

Video duration: 1 hour and 31 minutes.
