Course information

Course delivered virtually via MS Teams.

This course aims to assist learners in dealing effectively with allegations against staff and promoting safe working practice by staff, thereby reducing the risk of allegations of inappropriate conduct and harm to children. The training will equip practitioners to understand the context and their responsibilities when safeguarding children.

Training should be refreshed every three years.

Target group

This is advanced training for specialist roles, managers, supervisors overseeing child protection cases and named designated professionals.

Pre-course requirements

  • Completion of child protection training
  • Familiarity with content and documents on the following page: Allegations against staff

Aims and objectives

  • Identify the process for managing allegations in accordance with the South West Child Protection Procedures
  • Understand what constitutes an allegation, how allegations arise and the process of allegations management, including the role of the designated senior manager and the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO)
  • Identify areas of vulnerability in staff practice and develop ideas about how to address these vulnerabilities
