Course information

Training delivered in a virtual classroom on MS Teams.

It is thought that around one in five children in the UK experience domestic abuse.

This course aims to equip professionals already working with children and young people to bring recovery and restoration, through an increased understanding of their experiences of domestic abuse.

The course covers how domestic abuse impacts children, at different ages, both directly and indirectly, exploring how trauma can be displayed in their behaviour. It covers both experience of domestic abuse within their family, and young people in unhealthy relationships below age 18, as well as the impact on parenting.

Any professionals working with children, young people and parents.

Pre-course requirements

Aims and objectives

  • To improve awareness, understanding and knowledge of how a child will be affected by the trauma of DVA.
  • To understand the ways in which domestic abuse impacts on an individual’s parenting style, both as an abuser or a victim.
  • To understand how abusive behaviours may present in a young person’s relationship.
  • To increase knowledge of what support is available for children post domestic abuse, and how front- line staff can assist with recovery.
