Training delivered in a virtual classroom on MS Teams.

Aims to provide delegates with an advanced knowledge of safeguarding and the skills required to work together within local processes for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of adults in complex and challenging situations.

The training will equip practitioners to understand the context and their responsibilities when safeguarding adults at risk.

We recommend taking this module before taking the module 'Screening, section 42 enquiries, planning meetings, adult safeguarding plans'.

Target group

This is suitable for staff in a wide variety of frontline practice roles across a range of agencies within the safeguarding partnership. In particular it is valuable for those who come into contact with people at risk and need to signpost or refer them on to appropriate services.

Aims and objectives

To be able to:

• describe the relevant legislation, guidance, procedures and processes (e.g. Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Making Safeguarding Personal) and professionals roles and responsibilities when  safeguarding adults in Swindon. To signpost as appropriate.
• demonstrate knowledge and use of the s42 criteria when making decisions, assessing risk and supporting professionals to make good referrals.  
• identify the types of abuse and the barriers to reporting abuse and neglect.
• demonstrate an understanding of the issues on information sharing, consent and capacity. 
• explore professional curiosity and the skills for critical thinking and assessment of risk
• explore the principles of Making Safeguarding Personal when responding to safeguarding concerns ensuring the voice of the service user/carer (as appropriate is documented).
• explain the guiding principles on safer recruitment and how to respond to allegations against staff.
