Course information	Target group Staff working with children and their families where there is a diagnosis of autism have the skills to understand autistic behaviours and identify risk. Aims and objectives Describe how to support children and parents/carers to manage this alongside normal childhood development behaviours and mental health difficulties. Particularly focusing on older children/transition from primary – secondary age and adolescence rather than younger children. Identify the early signs of escalating behaviour and ensure that the right support is offered to parents to understand and be able to manage this Discuss how autism is assessed and when to seek further advice /guidance if there is an escalation of concerns/safeguarding risks including reference to any risk assessments Pre-course reading materials Training handouts
