Date: 1st April 2026 - 30th April 2026

Every day

Location: Remote

This month the safeguarding theme is Safeguarding unborn babies and under 2’s. X #safeguardingbaby

Local and national reviews, together with other research findings, show that children under one year of age and in particular, very young babies, are extremely vulnerable to being seriously injured or to dying as a result of abuse or neglect.

We want to raise awareness about this theme and have provided some information and resources for you to find out more.

Professional Curiosity Day

Date: 1st April 2026 - 3rd April 2026

Every day

Location: Remote

April Fool’s Day, also known as All Fools Day, seems a good day for the Safeguarding Partnership to promote Professional Curiosity Day. #askwhy?

Did you know that a lack of professional curiosity:

  • is a recurring theme in local and national safeguarding reviews for children and adults.  It is also a recurring theme in local audits
  • can lead to missed opportunities to identify less obvious indicators of vulnerability or significant harm
  • in the worst circumstances, has resulted in death or serious abuse

Being professionally curious is a combination of:

  • looking
  • listening
  • asking direct questions
  • checking out
  • reflecting on all the information received and not accepting it at face value

So today when you may be a bit more suspicious of news articles and published information, we wanted to take the opportunity to remind you of some resources available to help you be professionally curious in your practice.

You can find out more on:

We would also like to hear from you.

  • How have you been professionally curious?
  • Do you have any tips for others?
