SSP Safeguarding theme July 2025 - Self Neglect

Date: 1st July 2025 - 31st July 2025

Every day

Location: Remote

This month Swindon Safeguarding Partnership is supporting the theme of Self Neglect. X #selfneglect4Ps #peoplepreventionpartnershippractice #recogniseandrespond

Self-neglect is a strategic priority for Swindon Safeguarding Partnership.

We know that people who self-neglect can find it difficult to allow practitioners and services into their lives. They may feel they are being judged or not understood.

Professionals need to be mindful that, some behaviours whilst harmful, may have also helped them to manage stress and trauma.

We also know the challenges for practitioners and services in engaging and supporting people, who for various reasons, find it difficult to accept that help.

To date there have been eleven Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs) for individuals in Swindon who died in circumstances of self-neglect and these identified a series of development and practice challenges for Swindon. These are detailed on Page 4 of the SSP Swindon Self-Neglect Strategy.

Information about the SARs can be found on the Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SAR's) webpage.

SSP Safeguarding theme August 2025 - Think Family

Date: 1st August 2025 - 31st August 2025

Every day

Location: Remote

This month Swindon Safeguarding Partnership is supporting the theme of Think Family X #thinkfamily #workinginpartnership

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults with care and support needs is a shared partnership responsibility.

Partners in Swindon have adopted a ‘Think Family’ approach, which recognises that often people live as part of families, who provide support for each another.

This approach is important in helping to understand the unique circumstances of an adult or child, and the strengths and resources within the family to provide for their needs, but also identifies where additional support may be required.

We have provided some information and resources for you to raise awareness of this theme.
