Course information

This course takes place in a virtual classroom on MS Teams.

The course aims to provide delegates with safeguarding legal training and is relevant for practitioners working to safeguard adults.

The session will be delivered by Bevan Brittan LLP.

Target group

This course will be relevant to all professionals and their managers who work directly with adults/adults at risk to assist in understanding Best Interest Decisions, Self-Neglect, DoLS & Court of Protection.

Please note: Delegates should have attended the module Legal training 1 - Consent, capacity and information sharing before attending this course.

Aims and objectives

  1. To provide an overview of best interest decision-making
  2. To be able to explain Lasting Powers of Attorney/Deputyships
  3. To provide an overview of Article 2 (right to life) and the positive obligations
  4. To provide an overview of Article 3 (right to freedom from inhumane and degrading treatment and torture)
  5. To provide an overview of Article 8 (right to privacy and family life)
  6. To be able to understand the role of the Court of Protection in welfare applications and section 21A applications
  7. To be able to explore Inherent Jurisdiction for vulnerable adults
  8. To be able to explain potential legal considerations with self-neglect
  9. To provide a brief overview of Article 5 (right to liberty)
  10. To provide a brief overview of DoLS
  11. To provide a brief overview of the process for Community Deprivation of Liberty Authorisations
