Course information

Course takes place in a virtual classroom on MS Teams.

This course aims to provide delegates with an advanced knowledge of safeguarding legal training and is relevant for practitioners working to safeguard adults.

This session will be delivered by Bevan Brittan LLP.

Target group

This course will be relevant to all professionals and their managers who working directly with adults/adults at risk to assist in understanding best- interest decisions, self-neglect and Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS).

Delegates should have attended the module Legal training 1 - Consent, capacity and information sharing before attending this course.

Aims and objectives

  1. To provide an overview of best interest decision-making
  2. To be able to explain Lasting Powers of Attorney/Deputyships
  3. To provide an overview of Article 2 (right to life) and the positive obligations
  4. To provide an overview of Article 3 (right to freedom from inhumane and degrading treatment and torture)
  5. To be able to explore Inherent Jurisdiction for vulnerable adults
  6. To be able to explain potential legal considerations with self-neglect
  7. To provide a brief overview of Article 5 (right to liberty)
  8. To provide a brief overview of DoLS
  9. To provide a brief overview of Liberty Protection Safeguards
