Course information

Training delivered in a virtual classroom on Zoom.

This course will give participants an overview on domestic abuse issues and enable them to increase their knowledge, confidence and skills when working with victims of domestic violence and abuse and in particular those at risk of honour-based abuse, forced marriage and female genital mutilation.

Target group

All professionals who work directly with children/young people and/or their parents/carers and adults/adults at risk.

Aims and objectives

The course explores trends of domestic abuse behaviour, how to support clients, signs and symptoms to look out for, links with cultural issues, honour-based abuse, forced marriage, DASH risk assessment and safety planning. 

Competencies

  • Recognise indications of the cultural side of domestic abuse and refer individuals to specialists.
  • Relate to, and interact with individuals.
  • Support individuals to access and use services and facilities.
  • Promote people’s equality, diversity and rights.
  • Contribute to the prevention and management of abusive and aggressive behaviour.
  • Contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse.
  • Relate to families, parents and carers.
  • Facilitate learning through presentations and activity
  • Facilitate group learning
  • Develop and disseminate information and advice about domestic violence and abuse and BAME issues.
