Advocacy for Families

Advocacy

When Children’s Services are involved with your family about the care and protection of your child, they must involve you in making decisions and plans for your child if you are a parent or key family member. Exactly how they will do this depends on why they are involved with your child, your situation and whether or not you are a parent or have parental responsibility for your child.

The Family Rights Group have issued a fact sheet explaining the law and guidance that social workers and other professionals should follow when involving families in making plans for their children and how families may be able to use an 'advocate' to support them.  To access the factsheet click here.

Swindon Advocacy Movement (SAM) is a user led independent advocacy service for people with a learning disability and High Functioning Autism and Aspergers.  SAM enables individuals to gain access to the help and services they need.  For more information about SAM click here to view their website.
