Learning from SAR Tom – West Sussex Safeguarding Adults Board
In October 2024 West Sussex Safeguarding Adults Board published a Safeguarding Adult Review – Tom. The review, identified important learning across agencies working with those living with a disability, particularly in relation to safeguarding, information sharing, controlling and coercive behaviour, disguised compliance, professional curiosity, and trauma-informed practice.
Further information about the review can be found on the Safeguarding Adult Reviews webpage or you can access the report via Safeguarding Adults Review in respect of Tom (PDF).
There is also a video which brings to life the key learning from the review and features Tom talking through his story and highlighting key themes. Tom is keen to help staff understand the crucial role you play in identifying and responding to safeguarding for those experiencing exploitation and abuse.
The learning themes will be relevant to all professionals working in Swindon and we would encourage all staff across statutory, private and voluntary sectors to watch this video and to reflect on how the learning can shape your work.
